Find the Easter Eggs!

Happy Thursday everyone! As you may know, Google is known for creating their whimsical logos to celebrate holidays, birthdays, and historical events. Some of these so-called “Google Doodles” are seen in the form of animations such as the Muppet animations for Jim Henson’s birthday or the playful Gumby animation for Art Clokey’s 90th Birthday.

You can also find other Google goodies in Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps, and Google Earth. Satellite images captured from Google Earth show photos such as a blue tree in Australia, a comet, and underwater cities (the link to these photos are embedded in this week’s article).

If you start feeling bored or simply feel like procrastinating go ahead and try some of these fun little tricks offered by Google.  These “Easter eggs” are embedded in Google’s internet searches, but not all of them are easy to find. For example, try the 360 barrel roll trick. Simply type in “do a barrel roll” into the Google search field and prepare to get dizzy!

Ever been inside a fun house? If so, have you ever been in front of those mirrors where you can see yourself in one of them and then see your reflection repeated infinitely? Well there’s a term for this — recursion. It means a procedure that can repeat itself indefinitely. If you type in “recursion” into the Google search bar, it gives a search result that says: “Did you mean: recursion.” When you click the blue text, you we be brought to a new page with the same search result statement. Click it again and you’ll see the same “Did you mean: recursion” statement. Recursion! Keep clicking it until you can’t anymore, or until infinity!

The slideshow in the article gives even more tricks you can use to amuse yourself. There’s even a way to play snake in YouTube videos! I couldn’t particularly get this one to work, but try it out on your own. Enjoy them and let me know how you make out, I’d love to hear! Enjoy your weekend and thank you all for coming on by to read!
