Groupons for College Tuition?

Happy 1st day of school Umass Dartmouth students! We at the Center hope all of you had a great summer!

In this week’s article, Groupon, a deal-of-the-day website that offers discounted gift certificates, is working to offer discounts on college tuition.Groupon is doing a trial run with National Louis University in Chicago. The offer goes live next Tuesday and will give perspective students a 60% discount on a 3-credit teaching course valued at $2,232. Students will only have to pay a total of $950 for the course and it will go towards their graduate degree. The school wishes to see an increase in their graduate program for those pursuing a teaching degree, so they’re hoping partnering with Groupon will help their effort.

Do you think our school or other universities would benefit by taking part in tuition discounts given through Groupon? It seems to be a good idea especially for those who aren’t eligible or can’t receive scholarships or Financial Aid. We all love discounts so why not have one that helps further a student’s education!? Let us know what you think, we’d love to hear.
